DISCONNECT - film reveiw

The film is about how soscial media and the internet affects people on a daily basis, and a group of people searching for connections in todays technological world. Both cyberbullying and identity theft are central themes in this film. 

The issues that are presented in this film are very relevant in todays society. Most of us are online 24/7 with different technological devices, and bad things happen to innocent and perhaps naive people. The film is eye-opening regarding that subject. The film shows pretty clearly that you have to take precaution and be on the alert at all times. There are familiar elements in this film, but luckily, none has affected me.

Quite frankly, I loved the film! It presents relevant topics sorrounding the use of the internet in our modern day society's. I think that we need to understand the dangers and consequences concerning the internet, and this film shows us different aspectes of life when things have gotten out of control online. 


The movie was thrilling and exciting, but at the same time quite sad. Some of the stories were touching and emotional because of their content. At the end, when the entire plot of the film was coming to an end, the whole thing got a bit overwhelming to me. Fortunately most of the people involved got closure and managed to find peace although the circumstances were unrighteous. However, the part that made the biggest impression on me, was the part when the insecure and cyberbullied boy (Ben Boyd) attempts to commit suicide after beeing tormented by two boys on the internet (Facebook). I had to swallow my tears because the boy was so innocent and he got taken advantage of by the boys who prented to be this understanding girl. She/they sent him a picture of her body and asked him to send one back. He lost his mind for a couple of minutes and sent a personal picture that started circulating. Everyone thought he was weird and when he started talking to this girl, he felt like somebody understood him. It was so horrible that the boys took advantage of his weakness and turned it against him. All he ever wanted was to be understood by someone. Just the idea of this breaks my heart.

 1.    Do you think the colonies had good reason to declare Independence?            Why?
Yes, I do think that the colonies had a good reason to declare Independence. I think the people in these colonies were very tired of ruled around. They weren`t free. However, the final drop was when King George III taxed the colonies heavily. No wonder the riots began. The colonies was supposed to fill up the kings empty treasure chest with their money just because he had lost an expensive war. 

2. Should one country be able to colonize another? When should a colony be granted Independence?
I don`t think one country should be allowed to colonize another. Why should one country have power over another? Shouldn’t every country on this planet have equal rights and privileges? I certainly think so!  Every country should have their own laws, culture, identity, heritage without being influenced by another country. In addition, I believe that a country should be granted Independence whenever they want so. A country should have the jurisdiction to choose

3. The Bill of Rights guarantees Americans "the right to bear arms". Many Americans still feel this is important for personal safety and in case they need to revolt  against their own government, They argue that the Minutemen and the local militias only won the fight for Independence because they had firearms.

What do you think?

Should everyone have the right to bear arms? All kinds of arms?

 I have mixed feelings considering this matter, actually. I can somehow          understand that people, maybe vulnerable people, might think that a firearm would make them feel “safer” in a weird way. On the other hand, I think that getting more guns will not solve anything. Because it isn’t the gun that kills, it’s the person pulling the trigger. And if that person didn’t have that gun, the person couldn’t possible shoot and (might) injure anyone what so ever.

Just take a look at all the high school massacres that has happened in the U.S. over the years. All because of the right to bear arms for everyone. The government should really come up with a spectacular solution on this matter! That is what I think. They need to step up and make some changes.

The Viking Age

Lasted from around 800 to 1030 AD. The Vikings built fast, ocean-going ships and travelled across the world raiding countries for their treasures and resources.

Union with Denmark and later with Sweden

Day 1. – Monday

I woke up early in my king size bed in my room, at the Princess Street Suites, which is located in The Waterloo Street by the Waterloo Place in Edinburgh. I walked to a little Italian restaurant called Martone, down the street, and bought myself a deilicous panini. Then I packed my two bags and brought along all my maps and a compass. After that I ordered a strong, black coffee from the reception desk to keep me going on my trip. 


Then I filled up the tank in my white 2009 Mini Cooper Cabriolet and I was all set to hit the road. The reason I chose this exact car is because I've always wanted a Mini Cooper, and on a roadtrip on hot days it's just heaven to remove the roof and lift your hands/hand up in the sky while listening to tloud music! I started driving approximately 10 o’clock. I listened to my favorite roadtrip song “Hit The Road Jack” probably a thousand times over and over again until I threw the CD out of the window. Eventually, after 4-5 hours, I reached my first destination Scarborough.

My roadtrip went through these places: Edinburgh, Scarborough, Manchester and last but not least: London!!

Day 2. - Tuesday

That night I slept at Harbourside Apartments just a few short meters from the ocean. I had no idea how I found this location. It was spectacular! From my window in my hotelroom you could see throughout the sea and into the horizon. 

The previous night I had ordered a english breakfast in bed. It came as ordered! I thought they might have miscalculated the number of people eating it. But somehow i managed to stuff myself with eggs and bacon, sausages, bread, baked beans , orange juice and hot english breakfast tea.  

After a tasty breakfast I ran down in my bikini to the beach and threw myself into the silkysmooth water. It was heaven on earth to just lay there and float. No worries and no concerns. 

I then went back to the hotelroom and my wonderful bed. I didn't feel so good so I tried to get some sleep. I slept for hours and when I woke up I felt like a different person. Later that evening I decided to carry on so I packed my bags and drove off in my white speed-machine.

I drove for 3 hours nonstop and reached Manchester!!

Day 3. - Wedensday

The previous night I checked into another fancy hotel called: The Old Trafford Lodge. Guess what! It's located just 800 metres from The Old Trafford football stadium. And you know what that means? I bought tickets from a woman on the street. She couldn't make it to the game so she offered them to me for a fear price. I was suspicious at first, but when she showed my the receipt and the tickets I lowered my shoulders and cracked open my wallet. 





The game started around 6:00 pm, but just in case I got there a few hours earlier. Manchester United was up against Arsenal. When the game started the crowd went bananas! The mood was insane! I don't think I have ever experienced anything like it. Manchester United won the match 3-0 and therefore I was forced by "manu" supporters to join them for a drink. Well, let's                                                                             just say that I didn't enter my hotelroom until                                                                             4:00 am.

Day 4. - Thursday



I got up at 11:00 am. I drank 6 glasses of water and took a quick cold shower before I hit the road. The sun was shining all the way to Birmingham. The roof was down, the Ray-Ban's were on and the music was loud. What a trip that was! I almost felt sad when I got to Birmingham and I had to turn the music down significantly.




I actually managed to create a scheduale for what I wanted to see and visit in Birmingham. So I started out by finding my hotel: Nitenite, which was located in the center of Birmingham. I left my baggage in the reception, found my wallet and started walking towards a mall called Bullring just 15 minutes away. I shopped until I dropped, literally. I fell down on a sofa in a furniturestore. 

Later that day, after resting from my shopping-marathon, I drove to The National Sea-Life centre. The underwater creatures were astonishing! Beautiful creatures displayed for the world to see. It was very crowded with people but I just had myself to worry about so I managed okey! After this adventure I headed back to the hotel and ate a delicous beef steak with redvine-sauce. So that night I slept like a baby with a full stomach, dreaming about next day's destination: London!!!

Day 5. - Friday



My overfilled bag and I took place in the car, and drove off in the direction of the capital. Ït took 2 hours and 45 minutes before I got to London. I was so excited I actually had to scream very silently into my sweater. What a city! People were smiling and laughing + the sun was shining. Could life possibly be any better? 





Yes, it could. Guess what I ran into? Daniel Craig aka James Bond!! I was so starstrucked I could bearly say a word. He had obviously met a crazy, mute, fan before, so he took matters  into his own hands and we took a picture + he signed a James Bond poster for me. 

Believe it or not, my day carried on. And this is a summary of what my day consisted of:

Big ben, food, The London Eye, food (yum, fish'n'chips), Buckingham Palace, rest and more food.

The day ended with some shooping in Oxford Street. I went to the trip's last hotel: 

The Wellesley. An extraordinary luxury hotel with the best beds in the Europe I would presume. 

This was without doubt, the best day of my life, so far!

Suddenley I realized that I had reached my final destination. What a trip it had been! Altough I had been alone this entire trip, I hadn't felt lonely for even one second. I felt like I needed some alonetime to get to know myself better, and now i feel like I do.

Letter to my beloved sister Nazneen

My sweet, sweet sister. How is life treating you? I miss you madly and I love you deeply. When the bad times comes around, as they attend to do these days, I always think of you. It enlightens me to think of your inner beauty and the kindness of your heart.

Every now and then, I find a strength inside of me and I sit down and write you letters. Although I know it is wrong, I keep on writing until my hand is sore. I write about all the things that is on my mind. It just feels so good to get it down on paper. My husband Malek has very strict rules that have to be obeyed at all times or ells there will be consequences. Every now and then, I make honest mistakes and perhaps I make mistakes such as burning our meal, or shrink his shirts when I wash the clothes with too high temperature in the washing machine. When I accidentally do this, I’m punished in the worst possible form for a girl like me. He takes away my freedom. I cannot speak or see another human being for one whole month. One month without interacting with other individuals than Malek is an eternity for me. However, I survive.

I know that you’re probably worried sick to your stomach about me. Therefor I want you to know this: Malek is a good man but sometimes he just snaps and the worst of him is exposed. However, he has never beaten me. Not a single time, although he raises it sometimes. It think he makes this move to frighten me. But I am not frightened. My beliefs make me strong. And I do believe we will see each other again very soon. I’m holding on to that belief. It warms my heart when it turns cold with hatred towards him.

Events that shaped english

The Anglo-Saxons

When? The 5th- or 6th century

Why? They went to England and settled there.

How? They gave England the name "Engla land" ("land of the Angles") - Englisc. Most of the Anglo-Saxons were farmers, and so the Old English language related to farming. Therefor the Anglo-Saxons brought words such as sheep, sheperd, ox, earth and field. Other words that traces back to the Anglo-Saxons and the Old English are you, is, the and that.

Scandinavian Settlement

When? The middle of the 9th century 

Why? They came in large numbers and settled mainly in the nothern and eastern areas in England.

How? First of all, in the 11th century they had a Danish king. Second off all, the English language was influenced by the Norse language. The Norse language brought words such as take, they and gates to the English language.

1066 and after 

When? 1066 and after

Why? After the battle of Hastings in 1066 the English language changed. The system of old English broke down and Middle English took over. The middle English is quite similar to the English we speak today. The amount of words increased by almost 10,000 words due to the great number of loanwords from French and Latin.

How? French and Latin added 10,000 new words to the Middle English language that already had 40,000 words.

Standardization

When? In the late medieval and early modern periods
Why? There were many different dialects in The Middle English period and the government wanted to standardize the language with a standard dialect.
How? The London Standard English was approved to be the standard of written English. Over the time a marked change in the pronunciation of English occured and this change is known as the Great Vowel Shift.

Colonization and globalization

When? 15th century and after
Why? The englishmen colonized big parts of the world and took land all over the globe.
How? English became a world language after the English language spread across the globe because of the colonization and exploration of the englishmen. The English language has, and still will be, influenced by loanwords from other languages.
