The art of parenting

We got to choose between two tasks in school today. We had to select a quote and then write about it. I chose a quote I think is quite clever and wise. I chose this quote:

“If you have never been hated by your child you have never been a parent.” – Bette Davis (1908-89), American actress.

I do not actually know if the woman that wrote this was a wise woman or not but she most have had a little bit of sense in her. Because the quote is completely accurate. As a teenager, I have to say that I have said stupid things to my parents. Things that later regret saying. It might have been said in an intense situation or in a moment of anger towards my parents. Therefore, for me, the quote symbolizes the over-all relationship between a child and a parent. Sometimes you say stupid things as for example: I hate you! It doesn’t always mean “I hate you”, sometimes it means: “I’m sick of you” or “I just want to say something to hurt your feelings.”
Trust me, parents doesn’t always have the easiest job when it comes to racing a child from being a little brat to being a responsible adult. Therefore, as a child or teenager, we should have huge respect for our parents. Cause after all, they gave you the gift of life.
